Join us on a bus ride north to Bundaberg on Queensland’s central coast. We’ll arrive late on the Tuesday night and pitch our tents at Elouera campsite. Wednesday will be a relaxed day with a walk down to Mon Repos regional park for a stroll through the turtle rookery and a swim and explore. Wednesday night sees us go to the Mon Repos Turtle Centre. Arriving at Mon Repos Turtle Centre at 6.45pm for a 7pm start, you will be placed in your turtle encounter group for the night. While the Queensland National Parks Rangers search the beach for turtles, you’ll have time to enjoy the displays and browse through the shop.
Ranger shows and videos are also presented in the amphitheatre (weather permitting). Once the turtles arrive to lay their eggs, rangers will call your group and guide you onto the beach where the adventure truly begins. Unfortunately, sometimes the turtles don’t come on cue! Please be aware that you may need to wait for several hours before going onto the beach. Your total visit time at Mon Repos can be up to 6 hours.
Thursday sees us have a sleep in after a late night. Thursday afternoon we will head off to one of the local attractions. Friday we will head back into Bundaberg to visit the historic Bundy Rum Distillery. This is a world class tourist attraction that is not to be missed! Friday night we visit the Mon Repos Turtle Centre for a second time. If we’re lucky, we will get to see Loggerhead hatchlings make their way down the beach to start their 100 year journey. Saturday starts with a sleep in and brunch, followed by afternoon activities and a turtle-y awesome party!
