Test yourself over four days of Mountain Bike adventures as we explore some of the forgotten past of the southern end of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The Glasshouse Mountains is a vast area of forest just north of Brisbane, It stretches from the Brisbane Valley to the Pumicestone Passage and is full of different terrain and conditions. Rich in history the area opens itself up for the old style “boys own adventures”. When I was about your age I was living in the highlands of New Guinea, we would walk out the front door with a destination in mind but no planned route and away we would go. We boxed ourselves in with cliffs and raging rivers and had to back track plenty of times, but with more experience we accomplished more and travelled further each time. We had to be self-sufficient because there was no help and along the way we learnt some valuable lessons and saw some amazing stuff.
I still reflect on those days now and with those amazing times in mind I plan each day as if I could roll back the clock. No day will be the same, each adventure will be a point A to B; we will travel through different areas on each adventure, travelling along old abandoned rail trail, handmade single tracks, fire trail and unmade road reserves as we link the Mountains to the sea.
From Woodford to the pass over the Mountains on Day 1 to through to Landsborough and the Boneyard on day 4. Word of warning and here’s the challenge. Four good solid days of around 30kms a day on a bike is not for the faint hearted, this will be at the upper end of the comfort level, but if you prefer to run than walk, if you’re a participant not a spectator, then Get On Ya Bike is for you! No footpaths, no real roads just up and over hills to see what’s on the other side. If you are coming, make sure you do some riding before you get here!
